A developer with a deposit to create more impactful development

Over more than two decades, Robin Miller has made a name for himself and his firm, Miller & Associates, as one of Virginia’s most prolific developers.

Focusing on adaptive re-use of historic structures and infill in urban communities, Miller and his team are behind more than $100 million worth of prominent historic tax credit projects and new construction in Richmond’s Jackson Ward, Manchester, and Church Hill neighborhoods, along with properties in Petersburg and Staunton.

So when he was looking for a place to deposit savings, he considered Virginia Community Capital — which, as a CDFI, has a mission aligned with Miller’s to invest and improve communities to create a better quality of life for people.

“I like VCC’s mission, and the fact that they are small and tend to target communities and individuals that need help,” Miller says. Last year, his firm opened a Premium Money Market Account with VCC Bank. It’s a risk-free deposit that grows at a market rate of return, allowing the bank to reinvest Miller’s funds to educate, grow, and build sustainable communities in Virginia.

“I like to spread my liquid assets across different entities and banks. With VCC, I also considered the fact that, like me, they were doing projects in rural and distressed areas more so than bigger banks,” he says. “Their mission really fit my whole development philosophy.”
