About the Speakers

Bruce Katz

Bruce Katz graduated with a B.A. from Brown University in 1981. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1985. Until recently he was the inaugural Centennial Scholar at the Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C. He founded and previously served as director of the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, which aims to provide decision makers in the public, corporate, and civic sectors with policy ideas for improving the health and prosperity of cities and metropolitan areas.

Erika C. Poethig

Erika Poethig is Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at the Urban Institute. She leads the Research to Action Lab, which is an innovation hub serving decisionmakers and creative thinkers eager to effect social change. The Lab draws on the breadth and depth of Urban’s research insights to test new strategies and develop cutting-edge tools, programs, and trainings, as well as provide strategic advice to public, philanthropic, nonprofit and private sector leaders.

About the Moderator

Craig Carper

Craig Carper is the News Director for 88.9 WCVE Public Radio. Craig is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where he majored in Journalism. Craig has worked in broadcast news since 2001. He’s covered Virginia politics in various capacities for WCVE PBS Television since 2006. For six years starting in 2009 he served as the political reporter for 88.9 WCVE before being promoted to News Director in July of 2015.
